In UP, the first patient of Corona’s Kappa variant broke down, caused a stir

After two cases of delta plus strain were found in Deoria and Gorakhpur, now a patient in Sant Kabir Nagar has been found positive with Kappa strain of Kovid-19. The 66-year-old patient has died. The strain was detected during a genome sequencing exercise. Their sample was routinely collected on June 13 and sent to CSIR’s Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, which has confirmed the Kappa strain in the sample.

Like Delta Plus, Kappa has also been declared a form of concern. Amresh Singh, head of the microbiology department at BRD Medical College, said the patient had tested positive for COVID on May 27 and was brought to the medical college on June 12. The sample was taken on 13 June.

Singh said, “The patient died during treatment on June 14. He had no travel history.” Health officials said over 2,000 samples have been sent from the state for genome sequencing

For the first time in Uttar Pradesh this week, two cases of Delta Plus strain were reported. Officials said that since none of the three patients had a travel history, this suggests that the virus is mutating in the state.
