Hassan Ali’s 5 wickets in vain, England beat Pakistan
Hasan Ali took a five-wicket haul for the fourth time in the 56th match, but a poor top-order performance led Pakistan to a 52-run defeat against England in the second ODI at Lord’s.
England have now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the first match by nine wickets in Cardiff on 8 July.
With Hasan’s figures of 5/51, Pakistan managed to bowl England out for 247 in 45.2 overs.
In Pakistan’s run-chase, Imam-ul-Haq (1), Babar Azam (19) and Mohammad Rizwan (5) returned to the dressing room in the first power-play for the second consecutive time in the series. And when Fakhar Zaman’s 45-ball 10 was ended by Craig Overton, Pakistan’s position was 53/4.
For England, Saqib Mahmood was the most economical bowler. He took two wickets for 21 runs, which also included the wickets of the dangerous Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
Sohaib Maqsood hit a couple of big sixes but his dismissal on a wrong shot pushed Pakistan further back to 86/5 in the match. Saud Shakeel scored the most runs for the guests with his maiden half-century.
Left-handed Saud fought a lone fight and was the top scorer with 56 runs. While Hasan Ali scored 31 runs in 17 balls. He hit three sixes and two fours. Shadab Khan scored 21 runs in 20 balls.
The third ODI will be played on 13 July at Edgbaston.
