Congress calls strategy group meeting before monsoon session

A meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group will be held on Wednesday (July 14) amid talks by the new Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha to discuss the key issues to be raised in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The strategy group is likely to reach a consensus on the issue of rising fuel prices, inflation and the government’s failure to tackle the second wave of the pandemic. The party will also raise the issue of vaccination in the country during the session.

Congress leader P. Chidambaram said that the Congress party will raise the issue of high inflation in the upcoming session of the Parliament and demand adequate relief for the people of India along with a full discussion on the subject.

The party is in informal discussions to replace the floor leader in the Lok Sabha following the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, where the current leader is Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the state president.
Among the likely leaders are Punjab Congress chief Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor and Gaurav Gogoi in the race.
The Congress wants to bring in a leader who can coordinate with the entire opposition and jointly oppose the government in the House as the party has less numbers and needs coordination with DMK, TMC and Shiv Sena.

Though a section of the party is in favor of Rahul Gandhi, sources say that he is not inclined as the floor leader will not get the Leader of the Opposition status as the Congress does not meet the criteria.
Both Tharoor and Tiwari are from the group of G-23, which had written to Sonia Gandhi for comprehensive reforms in the party. As Sonia Gandhi reaches out to dissidents and opposition leaders, she is building a new team that is more flexible in approach. Choudhary may be tasked with forming the party in the state as he is the chief.g of the Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group will be held on Wednesday (July 14) amid talks by the new Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha to discuss the key issues to be raised in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament.
