Production of Sputnik V to start in India soon

Deal with Serum Institute of India

Serum Institute of India will now also produce Russia’s corona virus vaccine Sputnik V. The production of the vaccine will be started from September this year. Serum will begin production of Sputnik V in September, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev said on Tuesday. He said that some other manufacturers are also ready to produce this vaccine in India.

RDIF said in a statement that the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Serum intends to produce more than 300 million doses of the vaccine every year in India. The company further said that Serum has already received cell and vector samples from the Gamalaya Center as part of a technology transfer process. With the approval of their import by the Drug Controller General of India, the process of cultivation has also started.

Ties with many more pharmaceutical companies

India is the major production center for the production of the Sputnik vaccine. RDIF had earlier tied up with several pharmaceutical companies in India (Gland Pharma, Hetero Biopharma, Panacea Biotech, Stellis Biopharma, Vircho Biotech and Morepen) for production of Russian vaccine.

Vaccine registered in 67 countries

So far, the Russian Sputnik V vaccine has been registered in 67 countries globally, with a total population of more than 3.5 billion, the company said. Data obtained by regulators of several countries during population vaccinations, including Argentina, Serbia, Bahrain, Hungary, Mexico, San Marino, the United Arab Emirates and others, indicate that Sputnik V is one of the safest and most effective vaccines.
