Supreme Court reprimands Center for delay in counseling of NEET MDS course

The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the delay in counseling for admission to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-MDS i.e. Masters of Dental Surgery course, saying that the Ministry of Health has said that the counseling for NEET and Masters of Dental Surgery (NEET-MDS) 2021 courses Delaying on its response regarding finalization of The bench said that this kind of casual attitude of the government is not right. The Additional Solicitor General representing the Center K. M. Natarajan sought one week’s time to give a detailed response in the matter. To this the bench said that on the request of the ASG, we give one week’s time to respond to the complaint as prescribed in the petition.
“We hope that a speedy decision will be taken in this week and we will be informed when the Center proposes to hold the consultation,” the court said.
The bench also said that the Center should be aware of the problems being faced by the students due to delay in counselling. The petition said that the entrance exam was conducted on December 16, 2020, but till now there is no update on counseling.
The petition, filed through advocates Tanvi Dubey and Charu Mathur, states that several attempts were made by the petitioners to approach the respondents to get an idea about the schedule of counselling, however, till date in respect of counseling There has been no update.
It has also been said in the petition that since the examination and then the declaration of the result, they are facing a lot of trouble due to not being given any update about the counseling till now.
The apex court had on July 2 issued notice on a plea highlighting the unjust and infinite delay in the declaration of counseling schedule for NEET-MDS 2021 by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC).
The petition has cited concerns regarding simultaneous conduct of NEET-PG and NEET-MDS counseling as NEET-PG has been postponed till August 31.
