17 killed in building collapse in East China’s Jiangsu

At least 17 people were killed and five were injured when part of a hotel collapsed in Suzhou city in eastern China’s Jiangsu province. The accident happened around 3.33 pm. According to the rescue headquarters, 23 people were trapped during this time. The rescue operation ended at 9 am on Wednesday.
The provincial government of Jiangsu has set up a team to investigate the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the local police have taken criminal punitive action against those responsible for the collapse.
Preliminary investigation found that according to the government of Wujiang district, where the hotel is located, it was being illegally constructed, due to which the accident took place.
