Bihar / Patna : 16 died due to drinking spurious liquor

At least 16 people have died after consuming spurious liquor in Bihar’s West Champaran district in the last few days. More than 12 people have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav has targeted the Nitish Kumar government over this incident.
Tejashwi said that CM Nitish Kumar is the patron of liquor mafia in Bihar. He has been allowing liquor mafia to smuggle, trade and sell liquor in Bihar and his police register cases against poor and innocent people in alleged cases. They are putting poor and downtrodden people in the jails of Bihar.
Congress leader and Bihar in-charge Bhakta Charan Das has decided to launch a parallel probe into the Bettiah liquor incident.
“We will send a dedicated team to Bettiah (in West Champaran district) to investigate the incident separately and find out the actual cause and the death toll,” Das said. The team members will meet the families of the deceased. The local police is trying to hide the facts and reasons.
Das said, this area belongs to Deputy CM Renu Devi. He should visit the affected villages of Lauria block and meet the families of the deceased.
A case of spurious liquor came to light in Deurwa and surrounding villages after villagers consumed spurious liquor and became ill on Tuesday evening. The first death was reported on Thursday.
Residents of Deurwa village alleged that open sale of liquor is being done in the village and people from nearby villages also come there to buy liquor.
