Star Sports to telecast the fifth season of TNPL

The fifth season of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), scheduled to be held from July 19 to August 15, will be telecast on Star Sports One Tamil and Star Sports 2 (SD, HD) and Disney+ Hotstar VIP. Eight teams Chepauk Super Gillies, Dindigul Dragons, Lyca Kovai Kings, Salem Spartans, Idreem Tiruppur Tamizhans, Ruby Trichy Warriors, Nellai Royal Kings and Sekem Madurai Panthers will compete for the TNPL title.

All the 32 matches of the tournament will be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. The tournament opener will be played between Laika Kovai Kings and Salem Spartans.
The commentary panel for the fifth season of TNPL will include familiar names like Pradeep Muthu, Abhinav Mukund, Lakshmipathy Balaji, S Ramesh, Nani (KV Satyanarayanan), Suhail Chandok, Padmajit Sehrawat and Nikhil Chopra. While big names like Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar will be out of the tournament due to national commitments, Sandeep Warrier, mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty and left-arm spinner Sai Kishore will take part in the tournament after completing their national duties.

Meanwhile, the league will feature big names like Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar, Shah Rukh Khan and Murugan Ashwin and N Jagadeesan, who is known for his performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The recently concluded TNPL draft has featured 40 players for eight franchises, although the tournament will see defending champions Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) captain Kaushik Gandhi in the limelight, who will play the entire tournament at his home ground. Apart from this, CSG coach Hemang Badani will be eyeing his third TNPL title. Dindigul Dragons coach Subramaniam Badrinath is also aiming to give Dindigul Dragons their maiden title win in the tournament.

The league’s launch on July 19 will also mark the return of two new teams, Salem Spartans and iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans, while Nellai Royal Kings will replace VB Kanchi Veerans.
