Senior Congress leader and former MLA Ambareesh Kumar passed away late on Tuesday night at his Jwalapur residence. Former MLA and Congress leader Ambrish Kumar, popularly known as Bhai Ji in Haridwar, has a long history of political life. Amrish Kumar had also contested in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate from Haridwar Lok Sabha seat. In a political career spanning 50 years, 72-year-old Ambareesh Kumar has contested eight elections. How strong his political ground has been in Haridwar is shown by the fact that he came second in 6 out of eight elections. His political journey started with Congress and again brought him to Congress through Janata Dal and Samajwadi Party. He is the second such leader of Uttarakhand Congress after Harish Rawat. Who has contested the elections under the leadership of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Born in Haridwar’s textile merchant family, Ambrish Kumar joined the Congress in 1971, influenced by Indira Gandhi. Within a year, in 1972, he became the President of the Youth Congress of Haridwar. His inclination towards Congress was inherited from his family.
