SSCB boxers dominate, four from Chandigarh and three from Haryana in second round

After a stellar performance in the youth nationals, Service Sports Control Broad (SSCB) continued its dominance in the 3rd Junior Boys National Boxing Championship. Its eight boxers registered victories on the opening day of the ongoing event at Delhi Public School (DPS), Sonepat.

Harsh started the day very well for SSCB. Harsh defeated Neeraj Sah of Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) by a unilateral decision in the opening round match of the 46kg weight category. Later in 54kg, Ashish also defeated Atul Sahni of Gujarat. The referee declared Ashish the winner on the basis of RSC in the first round of the match.

Similarly, Rajan (50kg), Henthoi (60kg), Ankush Panghal (66kg), Jackson Singh Laishram (70kg), Naksh Beniwal (75kg) and Rhythm Sangwan (+80kg) were the other boxers who made their mark on Monday. -Won in his opening round matches and ensured victory in all the matches played for SSCB during the day. Earlier last week, SSCB emerged as the overall champion in the boys’ category with 10 medals (7 gold and 3 silver) at the 4th Youth Men’s National Boxing Championships.

Four boxers from Chandigarh have reached the next round in their respective categories. In 46kg, Krish Pal beat Haryana’s Alok Mor 3-2 by split decision, while Sushant Kapoor (50kg) also made a winning start to the tournament with a win over Madhya Pradesh’s Kishan Dadoria. Similarly, Parampreet Singh (70kg) and Bhavya Saini (75kg) also entered the next stage with first round wins.

The fourth edition of Junior Girls National Championship has also started on Monday. 28 matches were played on the first day of the tournament in which 201 boxers from across the country including states/UTs like Haryana, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Mizoram, West Bengal are participating. 298 boxers are taking part in the boys’ event. A total of 65 matches were played on the first day.

Three boxers from Haryana entered the second round with victories on the first day. Muskan (46kg) and Kirti (+80kg) defeated Delhi’s Swati Yadav and Himachal Pradesh’s Kangana Saini respectively in the first round at RSC, while Kanishk Mann (60kg) defeated Sandeep Kaur of Punjab 5-0. Won by margin.

The current championship is being played alongside the new weight categories introduced by the global boxing regulatory body – AIBA. There are 13 categories in the men’s event and 12 categories for the women. The event is also the selection tournament for the 2021 ASBC Youth and Junior Boxing Championships, to be held in Dubai from August 17 to 31.
