Philippines extends travel ban to 9 other countries including India

The Philippines has extended the ongoing travel ban from August 1 to August 15 for all travelers arriving from India and nine other countries to prevent the spread of the highly contagious COVID delta variant. Roque said in a statement that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the extension of travel restrictions to prevent further spread and community transmission of the COVID variant in the Philippines.

Apart from India, 9 other countries are Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

Although the Philippines allows the return of foreign Filipino workers under its repatriation programme, they will be isolated for 14 days upon arrival. The very dangerous Delta variant has spread in the Philippines.

The health department said they have detected 97 new delta variant cases.
The new cases took the overall delta variant tally to 216.
At least eight patients have died from Delta.
The Philippines has a total of 1,572,287 confirmed COVID cases with 27,577 deaths.
