133 crores of the public wasted due to the uproar between the government and the opposition in the monsoon session of Parliament

More than Rs 133 crore of the public has been wasted due to the disruption of Parliament in the monsoon session due to the opposition’s standoff over the Pegasus espionage scandal. Government sources gave this information on Saturday. Opposition parties have been demanding a discussion on the issue and an independent probe led by a Supreme Court judge since the first day of the Parliament session that began on July 19. Opposition parties are targeting the government, citing reports that the government is hacking the phones of opposition leaders, judges, ministers and others using Israeli spyware. The government rejected these demands. The BJP is terming phone espionage as a “non-issue”.

The Lok Sabha worked for only 7 hours out of a possible 54, while the Rajya Sabha worked 11 hours out of a possible 53, due to the impasse in Parliament, said a statement given to the media on Saturday through unnamed “government sources”.

Also, the statement said, ‘So far Parliament has worked only 18 hours out of a possible 107 hours. In this way about 89 hours have been wasted. This means that a total of Rs 133 crore of the taxpayers was wasted.

The statement came four days after PM Modi accused the Congress of not allowing the monsoon session of Parliament to function. PM Modi had asked BJP MPs to “expose the party in front of public and media”. Addressing a meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary party, PM Modi accused the Congress of deliberately rejecting efforts to resolve the impasse.
