Government humiliating democratic and parliamentary process: Kharge
Amid a stalemate in the Upper House over the Pegasus spying controversy and discussion on fuel price hike, the opposition has alleged that the government is cutting parliamentary procedures. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said that last week, the BJP government passed 10 bills of national importance in 97 minutes. Parliament was graciously given 9.7 minutes to reflect, deliberate and pass each bill by the government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been consistently showing contempt for the democratic and parliamentary process.
He said that like-minded opposition parties have been jointly opposing the government on many issues since the commencement of the session, but the government is not listening.
On Wednesday, Deputy Leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma raised the issue of papers placed by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister on behalf of other ministers when those ministers were present. Sharma said that this luxury should not be given when ministers are present, it is an insult to the House.
On this, the Speaker said that it has been allowed due to COVID.
