Madhya Pradesh : 29 teams of SDRF deployed in 1225 villages of 7 districts; Datia lost contact with Gwalior

The flood situation in Madhya Pradesh remains dire. Hundreds of villages in seven districts are suffering from this. A total of 1225 villages in Shivpuri, Datia, Sheopur, Bhind, Gwalior, Guna and Morena districts of the state are worst affected by the floods. So far 5800 people have been shifted from these districts to safer places, while about 1400 people are still trapped in the floods.

29 teams of SDRF, 3 teams of NDRF are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the flood affected areas. In the most affected areas of Gwalior, Datia, Shivpuri and Sheopur districts, 4 army units are rescuing people. IAF helicopters have also resumed rescue operations.

In Datia district, in the last 24 hours, three bridges have been washed away due to the spate of Sindh river. Due to this the road connectivity of Datia with Gwalior district has been cut off. The latest bridge that got washed away was in Sevada area. NH-3 is also closed due to a crack in the second bridge.

Here, the Chief Minister of the state Shivraj Singh Chouhan has told that so far 5950 people have been rescued from 240 villages, while efforts are on to save more than 1950 people. The CM said that 70 teams of SDRF along with NDRF, Army and BSF teams are engaged in the rescue work, while the Air Force team has also resumed its rescue operation. The CM said that the situation is improving in Shivpuri and Gwalior districts.

Despite the fall in the level of Parvati river, Morena and Bhind districts are a new cause of concern as the Chambal river is in spate due to release of water from Kota barrage. “The population in low-lying areas near the Chambal river is being shifted to safer places in Morena and Bhind districts,” the CM said. On the other hand, the telecom infrastructure in Sheopur district has been badly damaged. Traffic on NH-3 in Datia district has been closed after a bridge cracked.
