Stock market on new peak due to all-round buying

Despite weak global cues, the stock market reached a new peak today on the strength of all-round buying at the domestic level. BSE’s 30-share sensitive index Sensex rose 593.31 points to 55437.29 points and National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) Nifty jumped 152.45 points to 16516.85 points.

While buying was seen in the big companies on the BSE, selling was seen in the small and medium companies, which put some pressure on the uptrend. BSE Midcap was down 0.06 per cent at 22941.04 points and Smallcap was down 0.01 per cent at 26355.20 points.

A total of 3340 companies were traded on the BSE, out of which 1566 were in gains and 1650 were in decline while 124 remained unchanged.
