Government convened an all-party meeting on Afghanistan on 26

  • PM instructed the External Affairs Minister to inform all the parties
  • Investment in Afghanistan, the government will keep its side on the recognition of the Taliban government

Amidst the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, the government has decided to convene an all-party meeting on August 26. In this regard, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Ministry of External Affairs to inform various parties about the developments related to Afghanistan. In the meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will apprise the leaders of various parties about the developments related to Afghanistan. During this, the government will present its side on other issues including investment in Afghanistan, recognition of the Taliban government.

Regarding the all-party meeting, External Affairs Minister and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi gave different information through tweet. Jaishankar said that in view of the developments in Afghanistan, PM Modi has directed the Ministry of External Affairs to inform the floor leaders of political parties. Soon after, Joshi told that the meeting would be held on Thursday at 11 am. In this meeting, the External Affairs Minister will answer all the questions of the opposition.

The opposition was demanding to clarify the situation
Since the Taliban’s domination in Afghanistan, the opposition has been continuously demanding the government to clarify the situation. Significantly, India has not yet recognized the Taliban government. Apart from this, has made extensive investments on Afghanistan. The government has so far not made any statement regarding the Taliban regime.

At present, the government’s eye on the rescue work with regard to Afghanistan, the government is proceeding on the strategy of watch and wait. So far no country has recognized the Taliban government except Pakistan. At this time, the entire focus of the government is to evacuate the people of the minority Sikh community along with their citizens trapped there. India has got permission to operate two flights per day. Under this, 500 people have been brought home so far.
