More than 20 dead, 50 missing due to devastating floods in Tennessee, USA
The death toll from the weekend floods in Tennessee has passed 20 and more than 50 people are still reported missing. American media has given this report. NBC quoted Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis as saying that twins were among 21 people who died. Meanwhile, the New York Times reported on Sunday that flash floods in Tennessee killed at least 22 people and left 50 others missing.
Rob Edwards, deputy chief of the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office, said seven-month-old twins were among the dead. US President Joe Biden on Sunday expressed condolences to those affected by the floods in Tennessee, pledging necessary aid.
In Humphreys County, rural roads and highways were blocked by floodwaters on Saturday, drowning several homes and disrupting power supplies to more than 4,000 homes, according to reports. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency declared a state of emergency on Saturday.
