US rescue going fast in the last phase
More than 20 thousand people were evacuated from Kabul in 24 hours
The countdown has begun for the end of America’s longest military mission in Afghanistan. At the same time, the campaign to evacuate people before August 31 has been intensified. Meanwhile, the White House said that the US has evacuated about 2,000 people from Kabul airport in the last 24 hours. Since August 14, the US has helped evacuate about 113,500 people from Afghanistan. Whereas since the end of July, it has evacuated around 119,000 people from Afghanistan.
A total of 2,000 people were evacuated from Kabul on August 28 from 3:00 a.m. EDT to 3:00 p.m. EDT with the help of 11 US military flights (11 C-17s) and 7 Coalition flights, the White House said on Saturday. Army commander Major General Hank Taylor told reporters at the Pentagon, “It’s an incredible number of people who are now safe, thanks to those young men and women for their bravery, who fought to get Americans and vulnerable Afghans out of Kabul.” They are putting their lives on the line every day.
He said that we continue to evacuate American citizens and vulnerable Afghans from Kabul. In fact, there are around 1,400 persons at Kabul airport who have been screened and are likely to be deported today. On Friday, 32 US military aircraft, 27 C-17s and five C-130s departed with about 4,000 personnel. Today I can state that more than 117,000 people have been evacuated from the country so far. Most of whom are Afghans. Of this total number, about 5,400 are US citizens.
The six flights will take about 2,000 Afghans to the United States. Taylor said that as time goes by, thousands of soldiers are working day and night to fulfill this important mission.
