South Africa welcomes 105-year sentence for poachers in national park

The South African National Park (Sanparks) has welcomed three poachers with a total sentence of 105 years in prison. The Skukuja Regional Court sentenced two Mozambican nationals, 29-year-old Shangani Mthebula and 32-year-old Emmanuel Madhluli, as well as 58-year-old South African Walter Hendrik Mangne, for killing three rhinos in the Kruger National Park.
He was arrested in 2017.
These sentences should serve as a deterrent to those who intend to come and kill our natural heritage and destroy the livelihoods of our people, said Gareth Coleman, managing executive of Kruger National Park.
He said he would continue to tighten security in the country’s national parks.
We have intensified our security efforts in the Park to good effect over the past few months, but successful conviction requires that the prosecution and justice pillars in our society are functioning effectively.
He said, these sentences will inspire the teams that work tirelessly day and night to protect our fauna and flora.
