Supreme Court recommends biggest reshuffle for the first time, demands change of 41 judges of high courts

The Supreme Court made the biggest reshuffle in the High Courts for the first time. In fact, the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramanna has recommended a change in the role of 41 judges of the High Courts. It is being said that this is the first time that the Supreme Court has recommended such a large number of names in one go. The Collegium has recommended 8 High Court Judges to be Chief Justices of different High Courts and 5 Chief Justices of HCs to head another HC.
According to media reports, Justices UU Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and LN Rao were also included in this collegium. It has also been recommended to transfer 28 HC judges during this period. Of the 41 names given by the collegium, 13 are Chief Justices of the High Court and 28 are judges. It is expected that all the recommendations will reach the Union Law Ministry on Saturday for further processing.
Acting Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court Rajesh Bindal has been recommended as Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Tripura HC chief Aqeel Qureshi has been said to be transferred to Rajasthan. The four other Chief Justices who were transferred are Justice Arup Kumar Goswami (from Andhra Pradesh HC to Chhattisgarh HC), Mohammad Rafiq (from Madhya Pradesh HC to Himachal Pradesh HC), Justice Indrajit Mahanti (from Rajasthan HC to Tripura HC) and Justice Vishwanath (from Meghalaya HC).
