Uttarakhand / Chamoli : Destruction in Chamoli, workers’ huts buried under rubble, Karnprayag-Gwaldam highway closed

The incident of cloudburst in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand has caused havoc in the early hours of Monday. Around seven huts of Border Roads Organization (BRO) workers were washed away in the cloudburst incident in Narayanbagad in the district.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also took cognizance of the incident. He said the local administration is carrying out relief and rescue operations. No one was injured in the cloudburst incident.
According to the information, due to cloudburst in the upper part of Panti town of Narayanbagad on Monday morning at around 6 am, the flood in Mangrigad has caused huge destruction.
About seven huts of BRO workers were washed away along the Karnprayag-Gwaldam highway due to the inundation of Gadhre (rainy drain). The workers were in their huts when the debris arrived. There has been no damage to property. Floods have left 19 families of laborers homeless. There, debris has entered a shop.
All the laborers are residents of Nepal and Jharkhand.
The family members of the laborers and the local people showed promptness to save all the children and women from the flood. All these laborers are residents of Nepal and Jharkhand. The Karnprayag-Gwaldam highway has been blocked by debris, efforts are on to open it.
Narayanbagad area is geologically sensitive
Witnesses told people that many two-wheelers and cars are also buried under the debris. The administration has reached the spot. Rescue and relief operations have been started. The people of the village have taken the laborers and their children to safe places in their homes. The people of the entire area are scared due to the cloudburst incident. Local experts say that the Narayanbagad area is geologically sensitive.
According to District Disaster Management Officer Nandkishore Joshi, there was no loss of life and property in the incident. The work of opening the Karnprayag-Gwaldam highway has been started. The administration team has reached the spot.
