Steel Minister holds meeting with stakeholders in Tripura to increase steel usage in North Eastern Region
In line with the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Steel towards increasing steel consumption in the country, Union Steel Minister Ramchandra Prasad Singh has launched various initiatives including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to increase the use of steel in the North Eastern Region of the country and especially in Tripura. Had a meeting with steel consumers.
Addressing the meeting, Shri Singh emphasized that steel is one of the essential basic materials for various industries/sectors like construction, infrastructure, defence, automobile, engineering, packaging etc. Due to its wide applications in various fields of everyday life, steel is generally considered a mass material. Despite other choices, steel remains the material of choice for the industry and the common man alike.
Shri Singh said that the government is giving top priority to infrastructure development and steel will play an important role in this. Highlighting the immense potential of Tripura in view of building connectivity through Chittagong port in the times to come, Shri Singh said that there are huge opportunities for increasing steel consumption in the state. He also assured the resolution of all the issues raised in the meeting.
Earlier, after his visit to Tripura, Mr. Singh interacted with senior officials of various departments of the state government. He was accompanied by Mrs. Soma Mandal, Chairman, SAIL, SK Gupta, Chairman, MSTC and Puneet Kansal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel. Shri Kansal reiterated the importance of the North-East region for the Government and assured full help.
The Chairman of SAIL mentioned the various strategic projects of national importance implemented in the North East region including Dhola-Sadiya, the country’s longest river bridge over Lohit river in Assam connecting Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Rail-cum on Brahmaputra river. Road Bogibeel Bridge, Kameng Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh and Batala Flyover in Agartala, among others.
During the meeting, MSTC highlighted that it would take up various activities with the Government of Tripura to provide a single platform solution for its various e-procurement and e-auction requirements and any other specific e-solutions. is hopeful.
