The practice of giving preference to corporates in mentoring will end : High Court

The Supreme Court will soon take a decision on doing away with the practice of giving preference to the corporate world in mentoring matters and giving priority to litigants from weaker sections.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) N V Raman said on Monday that the court will do away with the practice of giving priority to mentioning only corporate matters. He said that the mentoring system is being improved. Corporate people are able to come and mention their affairs, while other matters go in the background.
Justice Raman, during an oral mentoring by a lawyer, observed that several criminal cases and appeals are pending and gathering dust in the apex court’s registry. Priority should also be given to litigants other than corporate, especially from weaker section.
It is noteworthy that the Chief Justice had arranged for the mentioning before the Registrar of Mentions to show equality between senior and junior lawyers. He had said that when the petition is not listed in spite of being mentioned with the registrar of mentioning, then it can be mentioned before the bench.
