Democratic and Gandhian values are at stake in the country: Sibal
Senior Congress leader and lawyer Kapil Sibal said on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti in Ahmedabad that democratic and Gandhian values are at stake in the country as the present government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not running according to democratic norms. Delivering the Girish Patel Memorial Lecture on India in the Modi era on Saturday, Sibal said, “He (Modi) does not play by the rules of the game. .and your children will suffer from it. If you have an umpire in your pocket, how will you play cricket? All democratic institutions have been controlled by the government.
To understand India in the era of Modi, Sibal said, we need to see the kaleidoscope. You can’t fit it in a mold. You take only education policy. If you go to Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra, you will find different policies for education. You cannot implement a single policy across the country.
The Congress leader said that the education policy started by the present Modi government is also not new.
“This is actually my draft document, which they rejected and now they have come up with a similar policy,” he said.
Sibal said, in a democratic country like ours, you have to understand different points of view. The problem in Modi’s era is that he is not ready to accept the views of others.
