Tamil Nadu : Madras High Court apologizes to Supreme Court for its mistake

The Madras High Court has apologized to the Supreme Court for taking six years to dispose of a writ petition filed by an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer alleging extortion of Rs 3 crore from a woman involved in an economic offence. Let us tell that in 2015, the Supreme Court had asked the Madras High Court to dispose of the matter at the earliest but it got delayed by six years.
Justice C.V. Karthikeyan attached apology
Now dismissing the writ petition, Justice C.V. Karthikeyan wrote that I should attach a note of apology with this. The High Court did not stand on the hope and belief of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The case was heard in full after more than six years. The judge pointed out that the petitioner Pramod Kumar was serving as Inspector General of Police (West Zone) in 2009, when the Tirupur Central Crime Branch registered a case against three directors of Paaji Forex Trading India Pvt Ltd. All of them were accused of extorting crores of rupees from the public by promising attractive returns.
Know why the screws were tightened on the officers
The allegation against the two officers – Pramod Kumar, IPS, the then Inspector General of Police, West Zone, Coimbatore and V Mohan Raj, former Inspector of Police, CCB, Tiruppur, was that they had accused the main accused in the case and directors of Paizhi K Mohan Raj, K Katirawan and A bribe of Rs 3 crore was allegedly demanded to save A. Kamalavalli.
Allegations of recovery of Rs 100 crore on the company
The company had allegedly collected and defrauded the depositors of around Rs 100 crore by falsely promising them a refund with huge interest. An FIR in the case was registered in 2011. When the petition was filed by two police officers, the investigation was being conducted by the CBI, Economic Offenses Wing in Chennai.
Police officials had requested to stop the CBI from investigating
The two former police officers had requested the Madras High Court to restrain the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from investigating a case related to Paige Forex Trading India Pvt Ltd in Tiruppur.
