The states where TMC does not have a support base, why have the leaders of those states also been involved
Trinamool Congress has now inducted former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma and 11 other Congress MLAs into the party. Apart from Goa, Bihar, Haryana, UP, TMC is also in a position to become the main opposition party in states like Tripura and Meghalaya in Northeast India. This week, senior leader of Bihar Congress Kirti Azad and Ashok Tanwar, who was once close to Rahul Gandhi in Haryana, also joined the TMC. Apart from these, former JDU MP Pavan Verma has also become a part of TMC. After this, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has also met Mamata Banerjee and has now called the Modi government a failure.
Not only this, when he was asked whether he is going to join TMC, his answer was that he is already involved in it. With this, he has given a clear indication that in future he may switch sides. He is also running angry with the BJP for the past several years. But the question is that even though TMC has a huge support base in Bengal, it has no interference in states like Haryana, Bihar and UP. Still, why are many senior leaders joining it? Going to its inside story, the big reason is Rajya Sabha seats too.
West Bengal has a total of 16 Rajya Sabha seats, out of which TMC has 12 and has fielded Goa Congress leader Luizinho Faleiro for the by-elections to another seat. The by-election to this seat is to be held on November 29. Apart from this, 2 seats are going to be vacant in 2023 and 3 seats will be vacant in 2024. It is believed that TMC can send leaders like Kirti Azad, Ashok Tanwar and Swamy to Rajya Sabha. In fact, in this way, these leaders will get a way to reach Parliament through TMC, who are not likely to get a chance from Congress or other party.
What is the benefit to TMC by including such leaders?
Now if we talk about TMC, then the deal for it is that it will get a chance to dominate even those states where it does not have any support base. At present, TMC is focusing on those states where there is a direct contest between Congress and BJP and Congress is weak. Apart from this, in states like UP and Bihar also, it wants to replace Congress because its leaders are neglected there and they are looking for a place which is also ideologically close.
