Taliban praised India but said – more help is needed now

India has sent the first consignment of health supplies as humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which has been battling a deteriorating health system since the Taliban came to power. This is the first aid sent by India to Afghanistan on Saturday after the ouster of Asraf Ghani.

India sent 1.6 metric tons of health supplies to Taliban-ruled Afghanistan in Kam Air, an Afghan airline that flies directly from Delhi to Kabul. Afghanistan’s health ministry welcomed the help from India but said they needed more help to deal with the current health crisis. This is the first humanitarian aid sent by India after the return of Taliban to power.

Speaking to Afghanistan’s local channel Tolo News, the spokesman of the Ministry of Health of Afghanistan, Javid Hajir said, “India has donated some health products to the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan through the World Health Organization. We appreciate this and appeal to other countries to come forward to help Afghanistan. Apart from this, India will also give 5 lakh doses of corona virus vaccine to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s ambassador to India, Fareed Mamundzai, tweeted and thanked India. He wrote, “There is no praise for the kindness that he shows to his benefactors. A Mahatma is one who does good to those who do evil to him. Thanks to India for providing medical assistance to the children of Afghanistan during this difficult time long live India-Afghan friendship.

He wrote in another tweet, “All children need a little help, a little hope and someone to believe in them. The first consignment of health related materials from India reached Kabul this morning. 1.6 MT of life saving medicines will help many families in this difficult time. A gift to Afghanistan from the people of India.
