A high official of Uttarakhand State Police STF told TV9 Bharatvarsh late on Saturday night, “The news of new currency being exchanged for old currency in Haridwar was coming for several days. STF had formed several teams to nab the accused red handed. Of the seven arrested accused, three are originally residents of Uttarakhand, while the remaining four other suspects are residents of Moradabad and Amroha districts of Uttar Pradesh.
According to state STF sources, the arrested people have confessed that the gang was in search of a middleman who could introduce him to some person of RBI (Reserve Bank of India). Because only the Reserve Bank of India can change such a large number of old notes. The STF is also engaged in verifying these facts. An official of the STF, on the condition of anonymity, said, “In lieu of the old currency of five crores, new currency of one crore was going to be received. Even before the exchange of notes could take place, the accused were arrested in old currency.
