Sanjay Manjrekar furious over Ravi Shastri’s statement about Virat Kohli quitting Test captaincy

Former Team India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has targeted former head coach Ravi Shastri. Shastri had said about Virat Kohli’s decision to leave the Test captaincy that many people could not digest watching him become the most successful Test captain. Manjrekar believes that Virat could have remained the Test captain of Team India for at least a year or two more. Manjrekar said that whatever Ravi Shastri has said seems to have been said under some agenda.

Manjrekar told News18, ‘I have no idea about it. I was a big fan of Ravi Shastri, I have played under him, he supports players, great fighter, senior. I don’t understand this Ravi Shastri 2.0. Whatever he says in public is expected, I don’t react to it. I don’t want to be disrespectful. He doesn’t make any smart comments. You can see the agenda behind it.

Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, Team India has played 68 Test matches, out of which the team has won 40. Virat is the most successful Test captain in Indian cricket history. During a chat with India Today, Shastri had said, ‘Could Virat continue to captain the Test team? Yes, of course, he could have remained the captain of the team at least for the next two years. In the next two years, India has to play a lot of Tests at home ground, in such a situation, there could have been 50-60 wins under Virat’s captaincy, there are many people who are not able to digest this.
