Harak Singh Rawat is making Harish Rawat’s dream come true by not contesting elections!

Harak Singh Rawat, a well-known leader of Uttarakhand politics, will not contest elections for the first time in the electoral history of two decades after the formation of the state. After joining the Congress, there was a possibility of him contesting the election from Chaubattakhal assembly seat. Harak Singh Rawat himself had said that if the party asks him to contest the elections, he will contest the elections. Even before his expulsion from BJP, Harak Singh Rawat was continuously giving statements that he did not want to contest elections. However, when the BJP showed him the way out of the party, he gave the reason that Harak Singh was demanding another ticket for himself, his son-in-law and for his daughter-in-law. After joining the Congress, Anukreethy Gusain, daughter-in-law of Harak Singh Rawat, got a ticket from Lansdowne. But Harak Singh Rawat was not made the Congress candidate.

On Thursday, the Congress announced the candidates for all its remaining assembly seats. Friday is the last day for nominations. Harak Singh Rawat is not contesting for the first time in three decades of electoral politics. After the formation of Uttarakhand state, in all the assembly elections held so far, Harak Singh Rawat had struck a chord and reached the assembly. In 2002, he won the election from Lansdowne seat. In 2007 also he won the election from Lansdowne. In 2012 he contested and won from Rudraprayag. In 2017 he won the election from Kotdwar Vis. Discussions were heating up for Harak Singh contesting from Doiwala, Kedarnath, Yamkeshwar or Lansdowne assembly seats in the 2022 assembly elections. Harak himself was giving a statement that he can contest from any of these four seats.

After his departure from the BJP and joining the Congress, speculation started that he would contest from Chaubattakhal. The discussion was also about his contesting from Doiwala. But on Thursday, the Congress declared candidates for all 70 seats and with this Harak Singh’s chances of contesting the elections were also over.

Let us tell you that Harish Rawat, former CM of Uttarakhand and National General Secretary of Congress, has been refusing to contest the 2022 assembly elections. This was announced by Harish Rawat himself. Rawat had said that in 2021, he himself wants to campaign for the victory of Congress candidates by not contesting elections. Rawat had said that whenever he took over the reins of elections in the state, the Congress has got better success. Rawat said that if I contest the election myself, I will be confined to one seat. Whereas I have to campaign for Congress candidates in this election. But now Harak Singh Rawat is doing this work.
