4 Jamia school students to represent India in US space program

Four students of Jamia Millia Islamia School have been selected to go to USA for UNVIE Space Theme Youth Exchange Programme. Youth Exchange Program Hosted by the U.S. University of Alabama, Huntsville.

The selected students are: Hafsa Fahad and Mubarak Samar of Jamia Senior Secondary School, Humayun Rashid and Arham Hayat of Jamia Syed Abid Hussain Senior Secondary School (batch of 2021). He will represent India in this event. Students from four more countries are also attending the USSRC Advanced Space Academy.

Event I is being held from 28 April to 7 May. The USSRC is a Smithsonian affiliate and the official visitor center of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

Jamia Vice Chancellor Prof. Najma Akhtar congratulated the students and said that the job of an institute is not only to impart education and information to its students but also to recognize their interest and potential and lead them in the right direction.

The abilities and potential of these students were recognized by their school teachers Ayesha Jameel and Ajra Parveen (Syed Abid Hussain Senior School), Ghazala Siddiqui (Jamia Senior Secondary School) and Rachna Sharma, Regional English Language Officer of the American Center. The journey of these four aspiring science students started from their formative years of high school, where their interest in exploring different aspects of learning and going beyond their classes led them to join the English Access Micro-Scholarship Program (Batch 2017-19) which was organized by the Government of India.

These students come from different fields of interest and have different goals in life. Despite being pulled out of the online program due to the pandemic, he got a chance to explore the wonders of space and science.

He has so far witnessed balloon launches, presentations by NASA interns, interactions with NASA astronauts and Russian cosmonauts, and many incredible scientific sessions, which were hosted by Evdoxia Simica Kronis (Senior Program Coordinator, UAH).

Mubarak, Arham, Hafsa and Humayun prepared their presentations and posters on space science-related topics that were presented at the online Globium symposium. His dedication and perseverance towards the online program paid off when he got a U.S. Received their invitation letters from Space and Rocket Center, Huntsville, USA to visit and experience the on-campus program.

His visit to the US Space Camp is the first step towards his goals and opportunities for an unexpected future. The friends, guides, knowledge and experience they are getting from this program are remarkable achievements in themselves.
