Punjab : Navjot Sidhu did not like the lentils and bread of jail

Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday spent his first night in Patiala’s Central Jail eating dry blue berries he had brought with him from home. Although he was given lentils and roti for dinner as per jail rules, he refused to eat this food due to liver problem and wheat allergy. On Saturday, Sidhu started the day with meditation and light exercise as usual. After this he went to the Gurdwara Sahib located inside the jail to pay his respects.

Sidhu’s lawyer HPS Verma while talking to Amar Ujala said that a petition has been filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Amit Malhan in Patiala to give special diet to Sidhu in jail according to his ill health. In response to this, the court has ordered the jail superintendent to conduct a medical examination of Sidhu by forming a board of doctors under the supervision of Dr. HS Rekhi, the medical superintendent of Government Rajindra Hospital.

Orders have been made to present the report in this regard in the court on Monday, but at present Sidhu’s medical checkup has not been done. Due to this, despite having embolism and liver disease, Sidhu could not start getting special diet. Advocate Verma told that even on Saturday, Sidhu had brought dry blue berries with him to the jail and lived by eating beetroot and cucumber. He told that due to liver problem, Sidhu cannot eat fruits.

In this regard, Dr. Rekhi, Medical Superintendent of Rajindra Hospital said that due to the closure of the office, the orders of the court could not be received on Saturday, but after getting Sidhu’s medical done on Monday, the report would be presented before the court.

Sidhu has now become prisoner number 241383. Sidhu was earlier kept in the library premises of the jail at night, but was later shifted to the barracks after the prisoner number was allotted. Sidhu is currently in barrack number 10. The special thing is that in barrack number 11, Sidhu’s political opponent is Bikram Singh Majithia. A distance of about 400 meters is being told between both the barracks. Four more prisoners are lodged with him in Sidhu’s barracks.

Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is lodged in Patiala jail in the road rage case, can be released even after eight months if his conduct is fine and if he remains disciplined. The superintendent of the jail and the government have this power, under which he can grant remission of a few days to the prisoner on the basis of good conduct in jail. According to the jail rules, if Sidhu works in a factory built in the jail, then he will get 48 days’ remission in the sentence of one year’s rigorous imprisonment.

At the same time, the superintendent of the jail has the right to give 30 days remission in sentence to any prisoner. But prisoners who violate the rules of the jail do not get this exemption. At the same time, the DGP or ADGP Jail also has the right to remission the sentence for 60 days. However, it can be given only in certain special cases. Despite being from the opposition party, Sidhu has good relations with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, which may benefit Sidhu in the form of remission of a few days.
