Ukraine crisis will also be discussed in Quad
The Russo-Ukraine war will also be discussed in the Quad meeting to be held in Japan on May 24. The remaining three members of the Quad, America, Japan and Australia, are however taking a tough stand against Russia, so it is being said that India may once again face pressure. But India has given clear indications that it will continue with its old stand and will not come under any pressure from the US or the Quad group.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said, India’s stand is clear. We are saying this not from today but ever since this war started that the war should stop immediately. The problem should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He said that of course this issue will also be discussed in the Quad but our policy is clear on this.
In fact, it was being speculated that in the changing geopolitical situation, India may have to face pressure on the Ukraine issue from the three member countries on the Quad platform. Similarly, western countries are not happy with the wheat crisis arising out of the Ukraine war and restricting India’s wheat exports. But even on this issue, India does not seem in favor of any change in its policy.
Discussion on the challenges of the Indo-Pacific region
The meeting will discuss the challenges and opportunities of the Indo-Pacific region. There can also be talks about China’s aggressive stance within the scope of challenges. Actually, there is a standoff with China on the LAC in eastern Ladakh for the last two years. Despite 15 rounds of military talks, China is not backing down from many places. At the same time, he is continuously building bridges in the occupied area. India can raise the issue of China’s aggression in the meeting. Apart from this, the situation in Sri Lanka is also believed to be discussed in the Quad.
