DGCA swung into action due to Air India’s action, fined Rs 10 lakh

The Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Air India. This fine has been imposed on Air India for refusing boarding to passengers despite having valid tickets. On which the DGCA, taking strict action, not only reprimanded Air India but also imposed a heavy fine on it.

In a press note issued by the DGCA, a fine of Rs 10 lakh has been imposed on Air India for denial of boarding to passengers holding valid tickets and subsequent non-payment of necessary compensation to passengers. The DGCA said that a show cause notice was issued to Air India on the complaint of the passengers. Along with this, personal hearing was also done in this matter.

The DGCA has termed this negligence as a matter of serious concern. Along with this, the airline company has also been instructed to make a system as soon as possible to solve this problem. If the company does not do this, then in future it is expected to take more such action.

What is the provision of penalty ?

Let us tell you that in such a situation, if a passenger is refused boarding by the airline despite having a valid ticket and the passenger has informed about this at the airport on time, then according to the rules of DGCA, in such a situation the airline It is mandatory for the company to follow certain set rules. Under which if the airline company arranges an alternate flight for the affected passenger within an hour, then the company does not have to pay any compensation. If the company arranges an alternate flight within 24 hours, then according to the rules, the company has to pay a compensation of 10 thousand rupees to the affected passenger. At the same time, after more than 24 hours, the compensation increases to 20 thousand rupees.

Let us tell you that last month also complaints were received by many airline companies for refusing to give boarding to passengers. After which the DGCA had issued instructions in writing to all the airline companies to follow the rules. Failure to do so, along with taking strict action on airline companies, was also warned of imposing heavy fines on them.
