Conflict between Delhi Police and Congress leaders, Shashi Tharoor said – are we terrorists?

ED is interrogating Rahul Gandhi for the third consecutive day in the National Herald case. Congress leaders and workers are protesting against the central government in other states of the country including Delhi. Delhi Police has so far taken 800 Congress workers into custody. Congress has also accused Delhi Police regarding this. On the other hand, Delhi Police says that for the last three days, senior Congress leaders have been repeatedly informed that as per the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, only processions and protests of any kind are allowed in designated areas. But these people are not agreeing and trying to disturb the peace.

What did Delhi Police say on police action
Delhi Police says that despite Delhi Police’s suggestion to protest at Jantar Mantar, Congress leaders have repeatedly tried to create unrest in the public sector in gross disregard of the Supreme Court’s guidelines and our suggestions. It has been said from the Delhi Police that today again some Congress workers tried to take out a procession from the party office and the police personnel present there stopped them from gathering. Some anarchists burnt tires and damaged police barricades, causing traffic jams and inconvenience to commuters. The police tried to prevent the situation from worsening by exercising utmost restraint.

Are we terrorists – Shashi Tharoor (MP)

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has said on the action of Delhi Police that I have no doubt that till date no ruling party has ever behaved like this government is doing. The government should remember this. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said a political party has every right to protest and suppressing Congress’s opposition is a blot on democracy. ‘Are we terrorists?’ Which Delhi Police is treating us like this.

Delhi Police has become a spit of Modi government. Police has crossed all limits now. Beating the leaders by breaking the doors shows that the Constitution has been blown away. Do not test our patience, on what basis did the police enter the headquarters? How can you beat up the leaders? The government and the police will have to answer and account for it.
