How Allahabad’s Asad Hashmi became Kerala’s topper by overcoming language barrier
Asad Hashim, a 16-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh has overcame the language barrier with his hard work and determination. Hashim has scored A+ in all subjects in Kerala SSLC examinations. Asad is a student of Darul Uloom VHSS in Kaloor and belongs to a family that came to Kerala from Uttar Pradesh in search of better education opportunities for their children.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, Asad Hashim said, “My parents, Mohammad Hashim and Mehjabeen Bano, had migrated from Allahabad in UP to Kerala after my birth. They wanted to come to a place that would give us better opportunities to study and achieve our goals.”
Asad wants to become a doctor. She said that her achievement would not have been possible without the help provided by her teachers. Asad, who speaks only Hindi at home, said, “From the beginning of my educational journey, he helped me learn Malayalam, though it was very challenging initially. In junior classes, I used to do very poorly in Malayalam, though I had good marks in all other subjects.”
To overcome this obstacle, Assad decided to focus on this language to get better marks in Malayalam. Gradually, his marks improved and for his model exams in class 10, he scored 38 and 37 out of 40.
Asad Hashim said, “When it comes to studies, my parents never held me back, my sister encouraged me to achieve my goals.” His father, Mohammad, runs a meat shop, which is his source of livelihood. Her sister Falak Bano also passed SSLC exam but could not get full A+ marks. “She has scored A plus marks in five subjects,” Asad said.
