‘No new variant of COVID but…’ NCDC statement on increasing cases of corona
The cases of COVID are increasing once again in the country. On Monday, Dr Sujit Singh, Director, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said, “Even though the cases of COVID-19 are increasing in the country, the patients are being monitored for their seriousness and hospitalization because No new version has come out. Dr Sujit told news agency ANI, “We are looking into the variant type whether we are getting special cases of some variants like US, UK and other countries. We are looking at hospitalization and severity of cases. Monitoring is also being done so that it can be analyzed whether it is due to some other type or not.”
Dr Singh also said that till now no new version has emerged from the admitted patients. “We are monitoring the cases, we have not found any specific new variant other than Omicron or its sublineage and recombinant variants,” he said.
He also emphasized that the strategy of monitoring the entire matter like that of a watchman is being followed. He said that the same strategy is being followed at 396 places across the country and samples are being sent for genome indexing.
Monitoring of all types of viruses
“Omicron-BA.2 and its sublineages have replaced all variants like Delta and others, but sublines also differ in transmission and severity,” Singh said. According to Dr Sujit Singh, instructions have been given by the Union Health Ministry that how is a particular type of virus behaving in India? Which cities have been affected? And is it indicating some seriousness? He further said, “We have discussed the specific behavior of the virus in the US, UK, India or South Africa, the Union Health Minister has also given specific instructions to look into those cases. Also those who are hospitalized How are you facing in those cases?
No symptoms even after being infected
Dr Singh further said, surveillance was started as per the instructions focused especially in those districts where maximum number of cases have been reported. To see which particular type of virus is responsible for the infection of COVID cases and what variants have been encountered in the hospitalized cases. Distinguishing the difference between infection and disease, he said, “Infection and disease are two different things, you can be infected but you may not show symptoms. So, if an infected person touches another Even after leaving, if the matter is not serious, then we do not need to worry.
Example given of increasing cases in Maharashtra
He further said, “I will not say that it is increasing very fast, we are seeing a gradual increase in cases from last two months. If we talk about the first day and 60th day then definitely There has been an alarming increase but yes we have to understand the prevalence and severity of the epidemiology.” He further said that if we talk about Maharashtra, it is not the entire Maharashtra that is reporting an increase in COVID cases, Mumbai circle of Maharashtra, Pune, Palghar and Thane are the places which are continuously increasing the cases.
The reason given for increasing in Kerala too
Similarly in Kerala, though the positivity is immense, there are other dimensions as well. Finally coming to the conclusion, he said, “The transmission of COVID cases depends on some important parameters. The first is the susceptible pool of the population, you can see what is the immunity status, which is in our community. Gradually as -As immunity goes down, you get a susceptible pool.”
