In such a situation, now the spokesman of Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia and Iran will have to pay the price of their sovereignty by facing these sanctions. The Russian spokesperson also said that the two countries will now gradually stop using dollars in mutual trade.
Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman of the President of Russia, said during an interview that many types of sanctions have been imposed on both countries, the number of which can be in the thousands. These restrictions have been imposed in different areas but this is the price we will pay. We are paying for our independence and sovereignty.
Russia, Iran have opportunity to increase bilateral cooperation
He said that Russia and Iran have an opportunity to increase cooperation to reduce the brunt of these sanctions.
On the sanctions imposed on Iran, Peskov said that the country has been under the shadow of sanctions for more than a decade and yet it continues to work for the betterment of its people.
He said that Russia has been subjected to frequent sanctions. Now I think we have an opportunity to increase bilateral cooperation so that the damage caused by these sanctions can be reduced.
Russia, Iran to stop using dollar in business
Peskov said that over time Russia and Iran would stop using the dollar in bilateral trade. We all know that last year the trade between the two countries exceeded four billion dollars. We are working towards increasing our cooperation in the banking and financial sector.
Both countries will prefer their local currencies instead of the dollar in bilateral trade.
He said that in the first four months of this year, trade between Russia and Iran has increased by 31 percent, which shows a positive trend.
Peskov said that Iran is our friend and partner. In fact we attach great importance to our relationship. It is a matter of happiness that the Presidents of both the countries are in touch with each other.
The spokesman said that soon Russia and Iran can sign a long-term strategic cooperation agreement, which can help reduce the impact of Western sanctions on them.
Spokesman Peskov mentioned President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Iran next week. The visit has raised many hopes for both countries.
