Uttarakhand : Truck fell into a ditch in Totaghati, driver dies, cleaner jumped to save his life

In Totaghati on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway, a truck full of bars fell into a gorge about 300 feet deep after becoming uncontrollable. The truck driver died on the spot in the accident. The body of the driver was found by the search and rescue team after about four hours of effort. While the cleaner jumped from the truck before the truck fell into the ditch. His life was saved but he was seriously injured.
The truck, which was moving from Rishikesh towards Srinagar, fell uncontrollably into the gorge in Totaghati, about 17 km before Devprayag. The truck got blown up after falling on the rocks. The truck driver could not get out of the truck while the cleaner Sunil Singh, resident of Patudi, Chamba (Tehri), jumped out as soon as the truck became uncontrolled.
He was seriously injured after falling on the road. Devprayag Police and SDRF Vyasi team reached the spot after getting information about the accident. The cleaner said that the driver had fallen into the ditch along with the truck. After this the rescue team landed in the ditch with the help of ropes in search of the driver.
Police station in-charge Anirudh Maithani said that after four hours of effort, the body of the driver Chandra Mohan (52) son Premlal resident of Chauras (Kirtinagar) was recovered. The body has been removed from the ditch and sent for post-mortem. While the injured cleaner was sent to AIIMS Rishikesh in 108 vehicle.
