Russia’s blow to Ukraine, missile attack on Odessa after the grain deal

A day earlier, a UN-mediated agreement was signed between Russia and Ukraine to remove barriers to grain exports from the Ukrainian city of Odessa in Turkey. But on Saturday Russian missiles attacked infrastructure in Odessa, southern Ukraine. This has dealt a major blow to the agreement to eliminate barriers to grain exports from the Black Sea ports.

Ukrainian Operational Command South wrote on the Telegram app, “The enemy has attacked the Odessa maritime trading port with Kalibr cruise missiles.” It said two missiles targeted infrastructure at the port while two others were shot down by air defense forces. Let us tell you, since Moscow’s attack on Ukraine on 24 February, Ukrainian ports have been blocked by the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

Due to this lakhs of tonnes of food grains have been stuck and many ships are also stranded at ports. This has disrupted global supply chains and made food grains costlier around the world. Friday’s deal had raised hopes of relief in costly grain prices, but Saturday’s missile attack has raised questions about it. The United States has condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine’s Odessa port.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky accuses Russia of violating deals
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday accused Russia of regularly violating agreements after the Odessa attack. According to a statement from the Ukrainian president, during a meeting with US lawmakers, Zelensky said it only proved one thing, that whatever Russia says and promises, it will find ways not to implement it.

Russian missile strikes struck the southern Ukrainian port of Odessa just a day after Ukraine and Russia agreed a deal that would allow the resumption of vital grain exports from the region. At least six explosions were heard in Odessa, according to Ukrainian parliament member Oleksey Goncharenko. Meanwhile, the United Nations and the European Union have condemned the attack on Odessa.
