Boxer Nikhat Zareen won gold in Birmingham, 17th gold in India’s bag
Nikhat Zareen won another gold medal for India on the 10th day of the Commonwealth Games 2022. She defeated Carley McNaul of Northern Ireland 5-0 in the women’s light fly category final. This is the 48th medal of Team India in the Commonwealth Games. While this is the third gold medal in boxing. Interestingly, Nikhat has won a medal for the country in the Commonwealth Games for the first time.
Nikhat made a strong start from the very first round and kept it up till the last round. He created a record by winning this match 5-0. This is Nikhat’s first medal for India in the Commonwealth Games. Before Nikhat, two more gold medals were received in boxing on Sunday itself. Neetu in the women’s category and Amit Panghal in the men’s category won the gold for the country.
Nikhat played brilliantly in the semi-finals. She had defeated England’s Boxer 5-0. After this match, the confidence of winning gold was clearly visible on his face. Nikhat, maintaining the performance of the semi-finals, hit a punch in the final as well and gave India a gold medal.
