Controversy has started over Union Minister Hardeep Puri’s tweet regarding Rohingyas. First the Aam Aadmi Party opposed his statement, then the Vishwa Hindu Parishad strongly condemned it and talked about expelling the Rohingyas from India. After which the Union Home Ministry had to come forward and clarify that nothing like this is going to happen.
In fact, Hardeep Puri had tweeted that the government has planned to provide flats to Rohingyas with basic facilities and round-the-clock security. Then the controversy arose in the matter, the Home Ministry said that the Delhi government had proposed to shift the Rohingyas to a new place. The Rohingya will remain at the present location as the MHA has already taken up the issue of deportation of illegal foreigners with the country concerned through the Ministry of External Affairs. According to the ministry, illegal foreigners are to be kept in detention centers till their deportation as per law. The Delhi government has not declared the present location as the detention centre. They have been instructed to do so immediately.
Now Hardeep Puri has tweeted again. Retweeting the Home Ministry’s tweet, he wrote that “The statement of the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the issue of Rohingya illegal foreigners shows the correct position.”
