Every day 82 people are killed in the country, every hour 11 are kidnapped, murdered, kidnapped in UP, then Rajasthan at number one in rape – NCRB

There has been an increase in murder and kidnapping cases last year as compared to 2020. This has come to the fore in the latest report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). According to the report, an average of 82 people have been murdered every day in 2021. In 9,765 cases of murder, the cause of ‘dispute’ was created. 3,782 cases were related to personal enmity and 1,692 cases were related to personal gain. Talking about kidnapping, in 2021, more than 11 people were kidnapped every hour in the country. Of the total abductions, there were 69,014 children (10,956 boys, 58,058 girls) and 35,135 adults (6,649 men, 28,485 women, one transgender).

Jharkhand has the worst position in terms of murder per lakh population and Delhi in terms of kidnapping. In Jharkhand, a total of 1,606 people lost their lives in 1,573 cases of murder. This rate was 4.1 per lakh population. Similarly, 5,527 kidnapping cases were registered in Delhi, taking the number of victims to 5,888. This rate was 26.7 per lakh population, which is the highest among all the states and union territories. However, the situation in terms of total numbers is different due to the large population of some states.

49 women are victims of crime every hour

The crime situation against women has also worsened. In 2021, 31,677 rape cases were registered with an average of 86 per day. In 2020 this number was 28,046. The total number of crimes against women stood at 4,28,278 i.e. 49 women were victims of crime every hour. In 2020 this number was 3,71,503. Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bengal and Odisha recorded the maximum number of cases. Assam, Delhi, Odisha, Haryana and Telangana have been the worst in terms of population per lakh.

Cyber ​​crime on the rise

According to the NCRB report, 52,974 cases of cybercrime were reported in 2021. This is a five percent increase from 50,035 in 2020. More than 70 percent of cybercrime cases were reported from Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Assam. Chargesheets were filed in only 33.8 percent of the cases. It is clear from this that police investigation was completed in only one third of the cases. 60.8 percent of cybercrime cases were related to fraud, 8.6 percent to sexual harassment and 5.4 percent to recovery.
