S&P Global Commodity Insights quoted Istanbul-based traders as saying, ‘The Ministry of Agriculture has detected Rubella disease in the Indian wheat consignment, due to which it has been rejected.

Government of India did not respond

Turkey’s move comes at a time when the supply of wheat has been affected worldwide due to the Russo-Ukraine war. These shipments were finalized before India banned the export of wheat. According to the report, this wheat consignment was sent by a private company. In April, India banned wheat exports after rising inflation rates. However, the Government of India had said in its order that this ban would not apply to the consignments that had left before the ban.
