Uttarakhand : Accident on Badrinath Highway, Mumbai passengers’ taxi fell into a gorge near Brahmapuri Ashram, four killed

A car carrying five pilgrims from Mumbai fell into an 80-feet deep gorge near Brahmpuri on the Badrinath National Highway at 7.45 am on Friday, killing three on the spot and one on the way to the hospital. The driver and a passenger are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
All the pilgrims had left Rishikesh for Badrinath Dham by taxi. On Friday morning, the police received information about a car falling into a gorge near Brahmapuri. The police immediately informed SDRF Dhalwala. SDRF Inspector Kavinder Sajwan reached the spot along with the team and started the rescue. As the team reached the ditch, the bodies of three people were lying on the spot, while three others were injured.
The team took out the bodies of the injured and the dead with the help of ropes and stretchers and sent them to SPS Government Hospital, where the doctors declared one more passenger dead. At the same time, a passenger was referred to AIIMS Rishikesh after being seriously injured. Munikireti police station in-charge Ritesh Shah said that five passengers and the driver of the car were in the car, a resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Two people survived because of air bags
SDRF in-charge Kavinder Sajwan said that the driver Ravindra Singh and passenger Ravindra Chavan were sitting in front of the taxi. As soon as she fell into the ditch uncontrollably, the front air bags opened. Both of them did not suffer serious injuries due to the opening of the air bags. There were no air bags behind, which resulted in the death of the passengers.

Driver Ravindra Singh said that the taxi lost control while trying to save a vehicle coming from the front. By the time something was understood, the taxi fell into the ditch.
