Uttarakhand got first prize in North India Geographical Indication

Uttarakhand secured the first position in the North India Geographical Indication (GI) Festival. Seven GI registered products were displayed by the state in this festival. Among GI products, Berinag tea, Aipan and Cheura products were the center of attraction. Uttar Bharat GI Mahotsav was organized in Varanasi from 16 to 21 October in collaboration with Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Government of Uttar Pradesh. In which 100 GI products were exhibited from 11 states of North India. Uttarakhand displayed GI registered Kumaon Cheura Oil, Munsiyari Rajma, Bhotia Dan, Aipan, Ringal Craft, Copper Products and Thulma among other products.

Industry director Sudhir Chandra Nautiyal said that Berinag tea, Aipan and Cheura oil were highly appreciated by the people in the GI products in the festival. Uttarakhand has secured the first position in the whole of North India in performance. He said that the Geographical Indication gives legal protection to the products having a particular area.
