Shashi Tharoor preparing to part ways with Congress? Reached Kerala, met with the President of the Muslim League

A day earlier, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief K Sudhakaran asked party leaders not to make public statements on differences arising out of the Shashi Tharoor episode. A day after this, senior Congress MLA and Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan on Tuesday warned that factionalism in the party would not be allowed in the state. In fact, after being ‘ignored’ during the Himachal and Gujarat assembly elections, Tharoor has started his journey to North Kerala on Sunday.

Youth Congress separates from Tharoor’s program

Shashi Tharoor was scheduled to speak at an event in Kozhikode on Sunday on the issue of “Challenges to the Sangh Parivar and Secularism”. But at the behest of the Congress party, the Youth Congress was forced to withdraw from the programme. The development created a flutter in the state unit. Tharoor initially shrugged off the incident but later demanded an internal inquiry into the matter. Some believe he is looking to play a more active role in state politics after his failure to contest the Congress presidential election in October.

Speculations are being made from Tharoor’s visit to Kerala

The turning point in Tharoor’s visit to Kerala came when he met Indian Union Muslim League President Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal in Panakkad on Tuesday. He also visited the Malappuram District Congress Committee office. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has been holding meetings continuously in Kerala for the past days. After meeting Muslim League leaders, speculation is rife whether Shashi Tharoor can part ways with Congress?

Explain that the Indian Union Muslim League is in alliance with the Congress party in Kerala. There is speculation that Tharoor may form a separate faction with the Muslim League in Kerala, not getting much attention at the central level. However, the Congress MP has dismissed these speculations. Tharoor’s supporters in the party such as former KPCC president and Vatakara MP K Muraleedharan and Kozhikode MP MK Raghavan have criticized his opponents. He has said that the kind of matter which came to light in Kozhikode on Sunday should not have happened. Muraleedharan also alleged that “those with an eye on the Chief Minister’s post are behind it”.

Congress MP clarified

Now there is a possibility of rift in Tamil Nadu Congress, also in Kerala continuing his yatra, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who seemed unfazed by the ruckus within the party over his tour and the support he is getting, met senior leaders of UDF ally IUML here on Tuesday, saying he was not afraid of anyone and No one need be afraid of them. Asked by the media who was afraid of his visit to Kerala, Tharoor said, “I am not afraid of anyone and no one needs to be afraid of me.” He also said that he was not interested in forming any faction within the state Congress. Tharoor has also been supported by the IUML, unhappy with some of the recent comments by Congress leaders who are known to be supporters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

The Thiruvananthapuram MP’s remarks assume significance amid speculation that a section of the Congress leadership in Kerala appears to be apprehensive of his growing support and the emergence of a “Tharoor faction” within the party in the state, where the party defected to the rival CPI(M) in 2016. Had lost power. Tharoor, however, downplayed his meeting with IUML leaders at the residence of Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal in Panakkad, saying it was just a courtesy call on his way to a program in the district.

Shashi Tharoor is getting the support of Congress leaders

Other senior leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) present there also described nothing unusual in his visit and said that they all meet Thangal whenever they pass through the area. Tharoor, along with his staunch supporter and MP MK Raghavan, also said they had no intention or interest in forming a group. Tharoor said, “Some people are saying that this (his visit) is a divisive strategy or factionalism. We do not intend to form any faction nor are we interested in it. The Congress is already divided into ‘A’ and ‘I’ groups. is filled with and no need to add letters like ‘O’ and ‘V’ anymore.” In Kerala, the “A” and “I” groups have been active in the Congress party since the time of Karunakaran and AK Antony, both former chief ministers.”

The Congress leader said, “If there has to be one letter, it should be ‘U’ for a united Congress, which is what we all need. There is nothing unusual in this visit. I am with an ally of two UDF MPs.” I don’t see the need to see any big deal in meeting leaders.” He said that at a time when divisive politics was active in the country, there was a need for such politics which brought everyone together and this was commendable.

Satishan targets Shashi Tharoor

Earlier in the day, Satheesan told reporters that the Congress and the party-led United Democratic Front (UDF) were moving ahead with a clear action plan for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. “We cannot allow factionalism by any leader at any cost. Without naming anyone, the senior legislator said that the balloons blown up by the media would burst with the prick of a pin. He said, “We are not balloons that will deflate when pricked with a pin.”

When pointed to Raghavan’s role in organizing Tharoor’s events in north Kerala, Satheesan said, “Indulging in parallel work will be viewed seriously. If anyone is found indulging in such parallel work, He will be given an opportunity to withdraw.” The Leader of the Opposition also drew attention to Tharoor’s absence from his constituency. He said Tharoor was missing when the party was holding a public protest against the CPI(M)-ruled Municipal Corporation in the state capital against an alleged job scam.
