A deep hole in the Sun! Increased risk of solar storm on Earth
Our Sun is going through its 11 year cycle. It is in very active phase. The American space agency NASA has warned that huge solar eruptions will keep happening again and again in the Sun. Now a new picture has come to the fore. This picture of Surya is astonishing. It seems as if there is a valley like hole in the sun. Because of this, a solar storm may hit the Earth’s magnetic field from Thursday to Friday. Although its effect will be minor, which will not affect us directly.
According to reports, the coronal hole visible in the Sun is a huge solar gulf, which extends from the center of the Sun. It is the region of the Sun’s upper atmosphere, which is less heated than the rest of the Sun. Because of this the area looks black. According to reports, the Sun’s magnetic field lines around these holes, instead of going into the holes, radiate into space and scatter the Sun’s material into space at a speed of 2.9 million km/h.
However, the solar storm that is going to hit the Earth tomorrow will be much weaker. It is estimated to be a Geomagnetic storm of G-1 category. Due to this there may be minor impact in power grids. There may be a malfunction in the functioning of some satellites.
If solar storms are to be understood in simple language, then they can transmit the Sun’s magnetic field to far-off space. These storms flow at a speed of more than 20 lakh kilometers per hour. They are made of electrons and ionized atoms, which interact with the Sun’s magnetic field.
Talk about solar flares, when the Sun’s magnetic energy is released, solar flares are formed from the light and particles coming out of it. These flares are the most powerful explosions ever recorded in our solar system, releasing energy comparable to billions of hydrogen bombs. The energetic particles present in them traveling at the speed of light are also called coronal mass ejections.
