Draft will be ready in Uttarakhand before May 2023, tenure of committee extended by six months

The draft report of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand will now come by May 2023. The government has extended the tenure of the expert committee for six months. So far, more than 2.25 lakh suggestions have been received for implementing UCC in the state, but the committee has not been able to complete the public dialogue campaign by going to the area. He has to do public dialogue on December 16 in Srinagar Garhwal and on December 20 in Dehradun. On May 27, 2022, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami constituted an expert committee under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (Sr.) to examine and implement the Uniform Civil Code in the state. It was believed that the committee would submit its report in six months. But the committee is taking time to gather suggestions from the public for the report. The committee also developed a website to receive suggestions online. So far 2.25 lakh suggestions have reached the committee.
The committee has visited more than 30 places and discussed with people and received suggestions from them. Of course, the work of taking suggestions is in the final stages, but now he has to study all these suggestions and prepare a draft report based on them. That’s why a proposal came from the committee to extend the tenure by six months. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Radha Raturi issued an order to extend the tenure of the committee for another six months till May 27.
The expert committee sought staff from the government
The expert committee constituted to implement the Uniform Civil Code has demanded staff from the government to prepare the draft report. Three legal interns and 10 employees have been sought from the government. According to sources, this staff will be outsourced.
The government has extended the tenure of the expert committee by six months. The committee is yet to visit two more places to collect suggestions from the public. After this, the full time work of preparing a report after reading all the suggestions will start.
