Uttarakhand: Now people with more than two children will be able to contest panchayat elections

Uttarakhand’s Panchayat Raj Minister Satpal Maharaj said that now people with more than two children will be able to contest elections in Kshetra Panchayat and District Panchayat. For this, the government has fixed the cutoff date. People who have more than two children before July 25, 2019, can now participate in the Panchayat elections.
It is worth noting that in 2019, the Trivendra government, while amending the Panchayat Raj Act, had made a provision for not contesting elections with more than two children, along with fixing the educational qualification in the panchayat elections, but its cutoff date was not fixed. Against the decision, some panchayat representatives had gone to the High Court, where the court abolished the provision of two children in Pradhan, but maintained it in Kshetra Panchayat and District Panchayat.
The minister said that now people having more than two children before July 25, 2019, will be able to contest the panchayat elections. Provision has been made for this. Said that action is underway to conduct the election of District Panchayat President and Block Pramukh.
